James Gunn tweeted that his father’s death influenced the script. The film’s release date, July 11, 2025, was his father’s birthday. When James Gunn originally finished the first draft of the script, he titled the film Superman: Legacy. By the time he locked down the final draft, he knew the title was SUPERMAN.
